The evil dragon Smaug took the Kingdom of Erebor in the Lonely Mountain from the dwarfs once. Bilbo Baggins, a young Hobbit, gets a surprise visit from the wizard Gandalf the Grey and twelve homeless dwarfs led by their former king Thorin. They decide to defeat Smaug and get Erebor and their treasure back. In an unexpected journey through Middle-Earth's perilous lands, where they must contend with Trolls, Orcs, and other magical creatures, Bilbo joins the group. Bilbo Baggins, a reluctant Hobbit, sets out with a spirited group of dwarves to the Lonely Mountain to reclaim their mountain home and the gold contained within it from the dragon Smaug. He also meets Gollum and finds his lost magic ring.
